FERRET CITY SHELTER & RESCUE’S FOSTER PARENT CONTRACT AND REQUIREMENTS
Foster parents must sign an agreement stating that they will care for the ferret in the right manner. Foster parents should have reasonable knowledge of ferrets and their care. Foster parents should have a cage, food and necessities before fostering. All foster homes must meet Ferret City Shelter & Rescue’s minimal requirements before fostering a ferret. Upon signing a contract you are stating you meet the standards and will continue to do so. The terms are as followed:
*** CAGING ***
Ferrets will be provided a well ventilated cage with plenty of living quarters. Cages must be kept up so the ferret is secure and free from hazards. All cages will have fresh food and water. All cages need to have litter boxes and bedding supplied. Wood chips or shavings and clumping cat litters are NOT to be used. All ferrets are to be fed a high protein and fat diet.
*** FOSTER MAINTENCE ***
1. Ferrets must be provided with an area in which they are able to play outside their cages daily. They need to be supplied with toys and activities to stimulate them.
2. All cages, dishes, and toys will be disinfected weekly.
3. All bedding must be changed at least once a week.
4. Litter boxes must be scooped daily, along with being dumped and disinfected weekly.
5. Cages, bedding and litter boxes will be checked daily for cleanliness and be cleaned accordingly.
6. Fresh food and water will be given daily. Food and water available at all times.
7. All ferrets will be handled and inspected daily.
*** FOSTER HOME OPERATION ***
1. If a foster parent is no longer able to provide care for a ferret, the ferret shall only be relinquished to Ferret City Shelter & Rescue.
2. NO selling, NO trading, NO adopting, and NO giving away the ferret is permitted!
3. NO transfer of ferret is permitted!
4. You will NOT leave the ferret in someone else’s care besides your own.
5. Euthanizing of the ferret is NOT allowed until judged by Ferret City Shelter & Rescue.
6. You MUST contact Ferret City Shelter & Rescue if the ferret’s health is ever in question. If needed, Ferret City Shelter & Rescue will financially provide medical care for the ferret.
7. ALL ferrets in foster homes will remain property of Ferret City Shelter & Rescue at all times. You may foster a ferret as long as you are able to or otherwise directed by the shelter for the return or exchange of the ferret.
8. Ferret City Shelter & Rescue reserves the right to adopt the ferret to an approved home while in foster care.
